LSU Alexandria named Military Friendly School

Released: 09/12/2011

LSU at Alexandria has been selected for inclusion in G.I. Jobs magazine’s list of Military Friendly Schools for 2012. The list includes approximately 1000 of the 7000 colleges, universities, and trade schools nationwide and will appear in the 2012 Annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools.

The list represents those schools that offer veterans, active-duty military and their spouses the best education, value, and welcome. Criteria for inclusion are affordability of tuition and fees, ease of admissions process, availability of quality advising and counseling services, and existence of student organizations and networks for students with military experience.

“LSUA wants to do everything possible to support our veterans and families for their service to our nation,” said Chancellor Dave Manuel. LSUA faculty and staff members have been charged with addressing the needs of military on campus and with developing resources to ensure that they meet their academic goals. The university also has a veteran’s support committee that monitors the needs of the military population, organizes events and activities, and facilitates contact between veterans and active-duty military and faculty and staff with military experience.

The university has forged strong connections with military organizations in the area, including the Rapides Parish Vet Center and local branches of the VFW. LSUA has also established a Military Support Organization (MSO) for military family members. LSUA’s inclusion in this year’s list of Military Friendly Schools will be formally announced at its annual Constitution Day celebration on Tuesday, September 13, in campus quad. The celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m.
