LSUA Remembers 9/11 through “The Service of Giving”

Released: 09/07/2011

Louisiana State University at Alexandria has been selected by the Corporation of National and Community Service as one of eleven organizations competing in the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance 10th Anniversary Challenge. LSUA’s service project is titled “The Service of Giving.”

Through the project, the university is working closely with its academic departments, the Veterans Support Committee, and the Alexandria Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) to meet the immediate and basic needs of the veterans housed in VAMC.

Contributions of playing cards, crossword puzzles/booklets, jigsaw puzzles, activity books, tooth brushes and paste, combs/brushes, soap, deodorant, sanitizer, Chapstick, lotions, body wash/shower gel, shaving crème and shavers, and pre-packaged snacks can be made at any of the collection centers set up across campus. Community donations may be made at the LSU Alexandria Museum of Art at 933 Second Street in Alexandria.

The project will conclude with a breakfast to honor local veterans on September 13, 2011, as part of the campus' Pre-Constitution Day Celebration.

For more information about the service project or how you can contribute, please contact the LSUA Student Service Department at 318-473-6545 or 318-473-4403.
