LSUA to Hold Free Preservation Survey Workshop

Released: 05/11/2011

LSU Alexandria will host a free preservation survey workshop for small and mid-sized historical repositories, libraries and museums with historical collections May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thomas Clareson, who has more than 20 years of experience in preservation, disaster planning and recovery, will lead the workshop.

“Improving Your Environment and Your Preservation Program” will be held in the Bayou Robert Room at the student center on campus. Seating is limited, and reservations are required by May 18. Registration information is available from LSUA archivist Michelle Riggs at 619-2960 or mriggs@lsua.edu.

The workshop will teach participants from public and private cultural institutions how to survey their own facilities and collections, and information on preservation grants will be presented. Attendees also will participate in a “hands-on walk-through” site survey of the LSUA Archives.

The event is sponsored by the Louisiana Libraries, Archives and Museums Preservation Project and LSUA with funding from the Institute for Museums for Library and Museum Services.
