Released: 12/08/2010

Dr. David Manuel, chancellor of LSU Alexandria, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in a vote by the College Delegate Assembly. He will serve a three-year term on the 77-member board.

The College Delegate Assembly is comprised of 804 presidents of institutions accredited by SACSCOC, which include public and private universities and community and junior colleges in 11 southeastern states. Manuel was nominated by a delegation from Louisiana.

Trustees make decisions regarding accreditation of institutions, review proposed modifications to commission standards, and determine commission policy.

“The entire senior leadership team at LSUA has long been involved in Southern Association of Colleges and Schools peer review and other services to the organization.” said Manuel. “This is another opportunity to contribute to the process of regional accreditation and development of higher education standards, and I look forward to the task.”

Manuel was appointed chancellor of LSUA in 2008. He is a former vice president for academic affairs at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and dean of the Moody College of Business Administration and professor of economics at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette
