LSUA, Cabrini Hospital, Diocese to be Honored in Concert

Released: 10/18/2010

Three long-time Central Louisiana institutions observing milestone anniversaries this year – LSU Alexandria, CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and the Diocese of Alexandria – will be recognized in a “Celebration of Mind, Body and Faith” concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center. The concert will be performed by the Red River Chorale and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. They can be purchased by calling 484-4463.

LSUA is observing its 50th anniversary this year. Cabrini Hospital and the Diocese of Alexandria are commemorating their 60th and 100th years of existence, respectively.

Soprano Mary Ann Robinson and mezzo-soprano Sonja Bruzauskas will join the chorale and symphony in the concert’s centerpiece work, Vivaldi’s acclaimed “Gloria.” The concert also includes hallmark music from legendary “American sound” composers Howard Hanson, Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein with pieces specific to the mission of each institution.

This concert will be the first in which a custom-made acoustical shell is used to enhance audio quality in the building. The shell was created through funds provided primarily by the Coughlin-Saunders Foundation.

“Celebration of Mind, Body and Faith” is the only joint concert scheduled for the chorale and symphony this season. Brief pictorial histories of the three featured organizations will be presented between musical selections.
