LSUA to Present Healthcare Employment Seminar

Released: 10/04/2010

The Office of Continuing Education at LSU Alexandria will present an information session on training for jobs in the healthcare industry Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at the LSUA Business Education Center in the Central Louisiana Business Incubator at 1501-A Wimbledon Drive in Alexandria. There is no cost to attend.

“We’re making this presentation because there is significant demand in Central Louisiana for people with appropriate skills to be employed in medical transcription, coding and billing,” said Bob Savage, director of continuing education. “There are many employment opportunities now, and the forecast is even greater for job growth over the next decade.”

The seminar will be co-sponsored by Career Step, a leading online healthcare education company. “Career Step can prepare students for careers in medical transcription or medical coding and billing in less than a year,” said Savage. “Employment in healthcare is running counter to most other segments of the job market which are characterized by no or negative growth. The market here is very strong for these types of healthcare jobs.”

The Office of Continuing Education will offer four courses through Career Step: “Medical Transcription,” “Outpatient Medical Coding and Billing,” Inpatient and Outpatient Medical Coding and Billing,” and “Medical Transcription Editor.”
