LSUA Chancellor Elected to NAIA Council of Presidents

Released: 09/09/2010

The Association of Independent Institutions (AII) has elected Dr. David Manuel, chancellor of LSU Alexandria, as one of two representatives on the NAIA Council of Presidents. He will serve a three-year term beginning Jan. 1.

The Council of Presidents, which sets operational and fiscal policy and hires administrative personnel, is the principal governing body of NAIA. The organization, whose headquarters is in Kansas City, Mo., oversees intercollegiate athletic competition among nearly 300 member schools.

There are 27 members on the Council of Presidents. Each of NAIA’s 25 conferences elects a member, and AII elects two members. Dr. Gary Bonvillian, president of Thomas University, is the other AII representative.

LSUA fields baseball and softball teams. Both squads were chosen for post-season play among NAIA independent schools in 2009 and 2010, the first two years of varsity competition.
