ULL Professor to Speak at LSUA on 'History of Complex Numbers'

The Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at LSU Alexandria will sponsor a lecture on the history of mathematics by Dr. Henry Heatherly, professor of mathematics at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, on April 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the Science Building auditorium. The discussion is suitable for general audiences, and it is free.

Heatherly will speak on “The Historical Development of Complex Numbers.” He has been a member of the ULL research faculty for more than 40 years with a specialty in abstract algebra and functional analysis. He is widely known for teaching history of mathematics.
