Released: 03/12/2010

Robert Savage, former director of adult programs for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, has been appointed director of continuing education at LSU Alexandria, announced Dr. David Manuel, chancellor.

The university’s Office of Continuing Education offers several dozen classes annually in professional development, personal enrichment and certification in various areas. It also sponsors the highly regarded CAPS summer program for first through fifth graders and the yearly Leadership Central Louisiana curriculum for business professionals.

“One of our objectives is to further develop the relationship between LSUA and Central Louisiana at large by providing appropriate learning opportunities, and continuing education is vital to that mission,” said Manuel. “Bob Savage is uniquely qualified to lead our expansion efforts in serving the business community and general public.”

Savage has held several leadership positions within the state technical college system. He also has been president, vice president for marketing and national sales manager at two private businesses in the plastics industry.

Savage said one of his goals is to “offer contract training for local businesses, especially in the areas of management skills, marketing and sales.” He said LSUA already has in place “experts among the faculty and other resources who can be very effective in delivering specific workforce development services to enhance businesses in Central Louisiana.”

The Office of Continuing Education’s location in the Business Incubator Building on Wimbledon Drive in Alexandria lends itself to convenient partnering with private business, Savage said.

Savage, who holds a master’s degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University, can be reached at 473-6495 or learn@lsua.edu.
