Krewe of Boogaloo Creates Scholarship in Memory of John Thompson

Released: 02/02/2010

The Krewe of Boogaloo, one of the oldest in the Alexandria Mardi Gras Assn., has established what it hopes will become an endowed scholarship at LSU Alexandria in memory of the late John G. Thompson III.

The “Big John” Thompson Scholarship has been created to “memorialize the spirit and dignity” of Thompson, who died in December. A spokesman said Thompson, who has been declared president in perpetuity of the Krewe of Boogaloo, was one of “the kindest and friendly humanitarians in the community. He was noted for his generosity and gregariousness and commitment to improving the quality of life in Central Louisiana.”

Tax deductible contributions to the “Big John” Thompson scholarship can be made to the LSU Alexandria Foundation. Additional information is available from Melinda Anderson, executive director of institutional advancement, at 619-2916 or manderson@lsua.edu.
