Evelyn Caliste to Speak at Ebony Scholarship Luncheon

Evelyn Caliste, equal employment opportunity program manager for the VA Medical Center in Pineville, will be the guest speaker at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. benefit luncheon for the Ebony Scholarship at LSU Alexandria. The luncheon, which carries the theme “Embracing Diversity: An MLK Tribute,” will be held Jan. 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the LSUA Fitness Center.

Tickets are $10 for the public and $2 for LSUA students. They are available at the Office of Auxiliary Services, 473-6579.

Caliste was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Air force in health care before joining the VA Medical Center in 1999. She was awarded the Meritorious Service Medical 3rd and 2nd Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Tactical Air Command Outstanding Performer Award, Air Combat Command Outstanding Performer Award and several other commendations. She received the NAACP Outstanding Young Citizenship Award and was a founding member of the Central Louisiana Business Incubator.

Caliste graduated from the University of Maryland in management and earned a master’s in health sciences administration from Central Michigan University.

Dessie Williams, luncheon coordinator and LSUA director of multicultural and international affairs, said the 25-year old endowed scholarship is presented to a freshman minority student who has demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
