Elaine Beck Chosen LACUE Post-Secondary Educator of the Year

Released: 01/07/2010

Elaine Beck, assistant professor of education at LSU Alexandria, was chosen Post-Secondary Educator of the Year for Region VI by the Louisiana Assn. of Computer Using Educators (LACUE). The award, presented at the 25th annual LACUE conference in Baton Rouge, recognizes educators for excellence in the use of technology to promote student learning. Region VI consists of nine Central Louisiana parishes.

Beck was recognized for a Science Methods class project at LSUA. “The class successfully wrote a $6,000 educational technology grant proposal to purchase an interactive white board,” Beck said. “Not only did the class become familiar with how to incorporate the white board in teaching science, it gained valuable experience in the grant-writing process. With dwindling resources available to teachers in public education, grant writing is becoming a valuable asset.”

Beck also was part of an LSUA team which secured a $165,000 Louisiana Board of Regents grant to create a computer lab and purchase laptop computers for the university’s Department of Education.
