Gormanous Appointed to Psychology Exam Review Panel

Released: 12/08/2009

Dr. Greg Gormanous, longtime chairman of the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at LSU Alexandria, has been appointed to a national committee which is reviewing competencies for the practice of psychology. The Practice Analysis Advisory Committee, which was established by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards, will examine the relevance of the licensing exam.

“The licensing exam has been through several major revisions, the most recent in 1995,” said Gormanous. “The committee on which I’m serving is analyzing the exam with input from practicing psychologists to ensure its suitability for today’s practitioners.”

Gormanous said preliminary findings indicate that ethics, legal issues and professionalism remain “the most critical area in the behavior of professional psychologists no matter how you cut the data.” Gormanous said the committee’s recommendations will be implemented over the next two years.
