LSUA Presents Forum on Elder Caregiving

Released: 10/14/2009

The psychology faculty at LSU Alexandria will present a “Health Forum on Elder Caregiving” Monday at 10 a.m. in the Science Building auditorium on campus, announced Dr. Greg Gormanous, chairman of the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The forum is free and open to the public.

The featured speaker will be retired LSUA associate professor of psychology Barbara Rothschild-Allen, who wrote the book “Effective Elder Caregiving.” Rothschild-Allen, a licensed psychologist, also co-authored one of the first textbooks about adolescent psychology and wrote several articles for professional psychology journals. She created the first LSUA endowed scholarship for psychology students and also established scholarships for students in business and education.

“This will be a practical discussion of the challenges and opportunities in caring for seniors led by a true expert in the field,” said Gormanous. “Personal and professional caregivers will benefit from attending.”

Additional information is available from the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences, 473-6470. The community co-sponsor of the event is CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
