March Non-Credit Coruses at LSU Alexandria

<p> LSU Alexandria&acute;s Department of Continuing Education will offer a variety of non-credit classes in March that provide opportunities for personal growth, development, self-enrichment, wellness and fitness. All classes meet on the LSU Alexandria campus unless otherwise noted. Pre-registration, which includes payment of fees, is required. <p></p> Computer & Technology Training Microsoft Excel (Introduction) teaches the basics of Excel from creating a spreadsheet, to entering data and creating charts and graphs. Basic computer and keyboarding skills are prerequisites. <p></p> It will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 25 and 27 and April 1 and 3 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Rapides Parish Learning Center, England Airpark. The fee is $155 which includes the text. <p></p> Microsoft Word (Introduction) teaches the basics of using Microsoft Word from setting up a page, entering and formatting text, to printing a final document. Basic computer and keyboarding skills are prerequisites. <p></p> It will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 11, 13, 18, and 20 from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Rapides Parish Learning Center, England Airpark. The fee is $155 which includes the text. <p></p> Money & Investment Management College Planning Strategies will help participants establish savings goals, understand and compare savings options, examine investment choices, and explore financial aid. It will be held Thursdays, March 20 and 27 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. on campus. The fee is $40. <p></p> Are Your Investments Properly Diversified?-This course will teach basic investments and principals of investing, risk versus reward, the dangers of inflation, and the advantages of diversifying your investment dollars. It will be held Thursdays, March 6 and 13 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. The fee is $40. <p></p> Real Estate 101 is for those who are currently or would like to start investing in single-family residential real estate. Participants will learn how to build a real estate portfolio, find property, and finance and manage these investments. <p></p> It will be held Tuesdays, March 11 and 18 from 6 until 9 p.m. in the F. Hugh Coughlin Hall nursing auditorium. The fee is $70. <p></p> Personal Enrichment Beginning Photography will teach the proper use of film, camera techniques, lenses, filters, special effects, use of a tripod and composition. Other topics include how to photograph friends and family, how to get great pictures on dark days and how to get more light into the camera. Cameras are not required. <p></p> It will be held Thursday, March 20 from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. The fee is $35. <p></p> Home Landscape Design & Installation-Homeowners and contractors will be introduced to residential landscape design by a local professional. This class also applies toward the required four hours of continuing education for contractors and builders. <p></p> It will be held Tuesday and Thursday, March 4 and 6 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Rapides Parish Learning Center, England Airpark. The fee is $90. <p></p> Permits/Exam Preparation Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit Course and Renewal of Permit-Persons applying to the Department of Public Safety for a permit to carry a concealed weapon must demonstrate competence with a handgun. This course is approved by the department and also meets requirements for those applying for renewal of their permit. <p></p> The course includes nine hours of instruction and two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures. The lecture portion of the class will be held Monday and Tuesday, March 24 and 25. The live-range portion will be held either March 28 or 30. The fee is $70. <p></p> Professional Development Conversational Spanish-This 10-hour class emphasizes conversation, one way communication and understanding spoken Spanish. It will be held March 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13 from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. at the Rapides Parish Learning Center, England Airpark. The fee is $105 which includes the text. <p></p> Legal Aspects for Business-This class gives an overview of general legal issues that affect the operation of business. It will be held Mondays and Thursdays, March 24, 27 and 31 from 5 until 9 p.m. The fee is $140. <p></p> Water & Wellness Participants must provide and wear appropriate deck and water shoes. All sections meet at the LSU Alexandria pool in the Physical Education Building and it is not necessary to know how to swim. The fee for each section is $35 per month. <p></p> Aquacise-This course is designed to use water&acute;s natural buoyancy and resistance to help improve physical fitness, mental alertness, and emotional health. It is held weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 until 9:55 a.m. <p></p> Aerobic Deep Water Exercise-This is a no impact program performed in deep water within the capabilities of most people with arthritis. It is held weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 until 4:25 p.m. <p></p> Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program Plus Shallow Water-All activities are performed in shallow water and are within the capabilities of most people with arthritis. There are two sections: Section 1 - Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 until 3:25 p.m. and Section 2 - Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 until 5:25 p.m. <p></p> Pre-registration is required for all classes.
