LSUA Appoints 8 New Faculty Members

LSU Alexandria has appointed eight new faculty members for the fall semester, announced Dr. Carol Corbat, interim vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.

Included among the new faculty is the university’s first visiting Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Marija Knezevic from the University of Montenegro. She is teaching Native American and British literature in the Department of Arts, Education and Humanities.

Dr. Catherine Cormier and Ruby Gonzales have joined the Department of Nursing as assistant professor and instructor respectively. Cormier, who earned a doctorate from LSU, taught at Southeastern Louisiana University before coming to LSUA. She also has been a practicing registered nurse for 16 years. Gonzales has been a registered nurse and nurse educator for 14 years.

Dr. Laurent Josien, assistant professor of management, and Charles Washam, instructor of business, are teaching in the Department of Business Administration. Josien, who holds a doctorate from Louisiana Tech, came to LSUA from Mount Marty College. Washam has worked nearly four decades in electronic media as a journalist and general manager.

Anne Chevalier has rejoined the LSUA faculty as instructor of chemistry, and Murphy Belgard has been appointed instructor of mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Chevalier taught at LSUA for 11 years before leaving in 2006, and Belgard was a long-time high school teacher and principal.

Dr. Dexin Tian is assistant professor of communication studies in the Department of Arts, Education and Humanities. He earned a doctorate from Bowling Green University and has taught in China and worked for the Chinese government in educational exchange programs and as an interpreter.
