Advising Center Presents Academic Career Seminars

Three “Academic Career Explorations” seminars will be presented by the Academic Advising Center at LSU Alexandria for current and prospective students. The sessions will deal with degree programs offered by LSUA, the value and distinctive qualities of each program, and the academic and career opportunities available in specific programs.

The first hour-long session, “How and When to Choose a Program of Study,” will be held Tuesday (Aug. 25) at 12:30 p.m. in the Science Building auditorium. It will be hosted by Drs. Eamon Halpin, assistant vice chancellor for academic and student affairs, and Dee Slavant, director of student services.

The second seminar, “Nursing Programs,” will be held Wednesday (Aug. 26) at noon in the Science Building auditorium. Dr. Haywood Joiner, interim chairman of the Department of Nursing and chairman of the Department of Allied Health, and nursing faculty members Dr. Robbie Dugas and Linda Hickman, will discuss programs offered in nursing, admissions requirements, curriculum challenges and career opportunities.

The final seminar, “Business and Criminal Justice Programs,” will be Thursday (Aug. 27) at 12:30 p.m. in the Science Building auditorium. Dr. Robert Bush, chairman of the Department of Business Administration, and criminal justice professor Beth Whittington will present admissions requirements, standards that must be met by students in those majors, and employment options.
