Mayor Clarence Fields to Address Spring Graduation

Released: 05/07/2009

LSU at Alexandria’s spring commencement – featuring 163 candidates for graduation – will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday (May 14) in the Alexandria Riverfront Center, announced Dr. David Manuel, chancellor. Pineville mayor Clarence Fields will deliver the commencement address.

“This is a special time for the products of the higher education experience at LSUA and their families,” said Manuel. “Commencement always is a meaningful and joyful milestone, and this is my first spring graduation ceremony as chancellor at LSUA.” Manuel was appointed chancellor last summer.

Fields, a lifelong resident of Pineville, is the immediate past president of the Louisiana Municipal Assn. He was unanimously appointed mayor after serving only 18 months on the Pineville City Council, and he has been elected twice to four-year terms. Fields worked as an engineer at Cleco for 22 years before entering city government.

“Mayor Fields has been an effective advocate for higher education at LSUA for many years, and he understands the importance of this institution. He’s also a remarkably respected mayor across the state, and his presence as graduation speaker enhances our ceremony,” Manuel said.
