Jamie LeAnne Funderburk Chosen Ms. LSUA 2009

Jamie LeAnne Funderburk of Woodworth was crowned Ms. LSUA 2009 at the 49th annual pageant at Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center. Funderburk, a sophomore general studies major, also captured the People’s Choice Award and the Scholastic Achievement Award. The Ms. LSUA winner receives a $1,000 scholarship, and she represents LSU at Alexandria at various functions during the school year, according to pageant director Kathryn Wimmert.

Kathy “Michelle” Grice, a junior biology major from Pollock, was chosen first runner-up and received a $500 scholarship. Grice also won the Director’s Award.

Nikki Jeanette Mertens, a sophomore business administration major from Marksville, was selected second runner-up, and Tiffany Jo Ayers, a sophomore majoring in theatre and English, won the Ms. Congeniality Award.

Contestants compete in casual and formal wear competition, and they participate in interviews before and during the pageant. The contest is open to all female LSUA students regardless of marital status.

Alonna LaTrice Richard, a sophomore nursing major from Mamou, is the outgoing Ms. LSUA.
