English Expo Held at LSU Alexandria

<p> LSU Alexandria is the site for a statewide competition in literature, composition and speech for grades 9-12 that will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15. This event is sponsored by the Louisiana Council of Teachers of English and LSU Alexandria. <p></p> "It&acute;s high time that we have academic competitions such as this to fire up our students&acute; enthusiasm about literature, writing, and speech," said Olivia Pass, chairperson of the Louisiana English Expo. <p></p> The competition includes approximately 100 students from around the state. There will be individual awards for each event, and special awards for the school and teacher with the most winners. Some of the categories of judging include literature, business letters, poetry, prose, personal narrative, listening, proofreading, original and traditional storytelling, informative speaking, technical writing, vocabulary and more. <p></p> The day-long event will conclude with the awards ceremony at 2 p.m. in the Barbara Brumfield Caffey Annex.
