Dr. Ells Selected for Environmental Communication Institute

Released: 04/08/2009

Dr. Kevin Ells, LSU at Alexandria assistant professor of communication studies, has been accepted to the Summer Institute for College and University Faculty in Prescott, Ariz. The theme of the month-long seminar is “A Fierce Green Fire at 100: Aldo Leopold and the Roots of Environmental Ethics.”

Dr. Richard Collins, chairman of the Department of Arts, English and Humanities at LSUA, said participation in the seminar is “an opportunity for Dr. Ells to build on his research and curriculum development, including a course in Environmental Communication. Selection for the institute is quite competitive.” Ells is a contributor to “Environmental Communication: A Journal of Nature and Culture,” and he is faculty sponsor of the LSUA debate team.

The institute is sponsored by Arizona State University and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. It includes lectures, seminars, group work, research, field trips, exhibit planning and curriculum development. Scott Russell Sanders, a well-known environmental author who recently was part of the LSUA-sponsored Cavanaugh Lecture Series, will be one of the lead presenters at the institute.
