LSUA Archives Displays Historical Local Transportation Photos

Released: 03/11/2009

A collection of turn-of-last-century photos featuring Central Louisiana people posing with automobiles, trains and airplanes in the early 1900s will be exhibited March 16 through May 1 in the lobby of Bolton Library on the LSU at Alexandria campus. The exhibit is part of the Central Louisiana Collections Division of the university’s Archives and Special Collections.

LSUA archivist Michelle Riggs said the “Rolling Across Central Louisiana” exhibit will feature approximately two dozen photos. “None of the pictures have identification, but they’re representative of the transportation of the era and the ‘period costumes,’ which, of course, were the normal dress of the day,” Riggs said. “They’re interesting and fun to see.”

The exhibit can be viewed during normal library hours. It is free and open to the public.
