LSUA to Hold 8 "Back 2 School" Seminars for Adults

Released: 02/19/2009

LSU at Alexandria will hold eight informational seminars next month in locations across Central Louisiana to “remove barriers” for adult learners to return to college. “March Back 2 School” sessions will be held in Alexandria, Pineville, Glenmora, Oakdale, Marksville, Bunkie, Colfax and Jena, announced Shelly Kieffer, director of admissions and recruiting.

“The ideal participant would be someone over 25 years old who has been out of college for more than one year. The time people spend with us will be productive if they want to return to school to enhance their careers,” Kieffer said. “Nobody should assume that he or she can’t return to college, and we’ll do our best to make the process as seamless as possible.” Academic transcripts, if available, should be brought to the seminars.

Kieffer also said that first-time college students are welcome to attend the free sessions.

The first seminar will be held in the Alexandria Museum of Art on March 2. The second is scheduled for March 5 at Kees Park in Pineville. The remainder are at the Rapides Parish Library in Glenmora, March 10; Allen Parish Library in Oakdale, March 12; Union Bank in Marksville, March 17; Bunkie Civic Center, March 19; Grant Parish Library in Colfax, March 24; and in Jena at a date and place to be determined. All seminars begin at 6 p.m. and should be finished within an hour depending on individual needs.

Kieffer said LSUA admissions and enrollment personnel will be present to answer questions and deliver personalized assistance on such topics as academic bankruptcy, the admissions process, financial aid, student loan issues, selecting a degree program, and college credit transfer. “We welcome questions, and we will work individually with participants to resolve issues that would impede their return to school,” Kieffer said.
