Herring to Discuss New Diagnostic Procedures for Heart Attacks

Released: 02/17/2009

Sheryl B. Herring, assistant professor and clinical laboratory technology program coordinator in the Department of Allied Health at LSU at Alexandria, will discuss “New Diagnostic Lab Tests for Myocardial Infarctions” in a free community health forum Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m. in the A.C. Buchanan Allied Health Building in Alexandria.

“New testing procedures have been developed for specific diagnosis of heart damage and the potential for heart problems,” Herring said. “It’s important for the public to know about these advanced procedures, and they will be discussed in layman’s language at the forum.”

Dr. Stephen Norman, a pathologist, also is scheduled to speak on “Heart Disease: Ins and Outs.” His presentation will include specimens of damaged hearts.

The forum, which is part of a community health series sponsored by the Department of Allied Health at LSUA, will include free cholesterol testing and blood pressure checks. Seating is limited, and participants are asked to call 487-5504 to reserve a seat. The A.C. Buchanan Allied Health Building is located at 807 Jackson St.
