LSUA Police Conducting Christmas Toy Drive

Released: 12/08/2008

The LSU at Alexandria police department is collecting toys for local children ages 3-10 who otherwise might not receive Christmas gifts, announced Sgt. Ray Hamilton, director. LSUA students and employees are donating toys and time to wrap the presents.

“Response has been excellent, especially since this is our first year. We want to distribute as many toys as possible, and we will collect them through Dec. 22,” Hamilton said. New toys from the public are welcome.

Several collection points for toys have been established on campus, including Abrams Hall, Bo Nipper Building, Bolton Library, LSUA Police headquarters, the Office of Auxiliary Services in the student center, and Niko’s Italian Restaurant. Toys will be picked up by university police if delivery is to a collection point isn’t possible. Hamilton said retailers also have been contacted about donations.

The toys will be distributed Dec. 23 by uniformed LSUA police accompanied by Peggy, the department’s police dog, where appropriate. The first of two gift wrapping sessions will be held Dec. 16.
