Gormanous to Present at American Psycholgical Assn.

Released: 08/12/2008

Dr. Greg Gormanous, chairman of the Dept. of Behavioral and Social Sciences at LSU at Alexandria, will present a mock ethics hearing at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Assn. in Boston this weekend. The ethics hearing is part of an emphasis at the meeting on Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.

Gormanous developed the mock hearing with Alexandria native Lauren Drerup, a doctoral student in clinical child psychology at the University of Kansas. It is based loosely on the shooting tragedy at Virginia Tech in 2007. Gormanous, a long-time professor of psychology at LSUA, teaches a course in ethical, legal and professional issues in psychology, and he is a former chairman of the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

Gormanous also will present “What Every Student Needs to Know” at the APA meeting. It deals with education and training in psychology.
