Released: 07/02/2008

Auditions for the musical “1776” to be performed by the Empty Space Players from LSU at Alexandria will be held July 7-9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alexandria Museum of Art. Director Richard Gwartney said roles will be cast for 25 men and two women. Performance dates are Aug. 21-24 at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center.

Those who audition should bring a song to sing, and they need only to attend one night. Rehearsal will start as early as July 10. Additional information is available from Gwartney, LSUA associate professor of theatre and communication studies, by calling the museum at 443-3458.

The show, which has played on Broadway, is about the Continental Congress during the formative years of the United States. It follows previous Empty Space Players summer productions of “The Apple Tree,” “Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris,” “The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Abridged” and “Assassins.”
