LSU Alexandria CAPS Registration Schedule

<p> Classes for the Children&acute;s Academic Program for Summer (CAPS), coordinated by LSU Alexandria Continuing Education, are scheduled for Monday through Friday, June 16 - June 27, from 12:50 until 4:30 p.m. on the LSU Alexandria campus. <p></p> CAPS is open to any student who will complete the first through the sixth grade this May and who is academically and socially prepared for this challenging program. <p></p> To be eligible for CAPS, students must have maintained at least a B average or have documentation of gifted status and submit a recommendation from their teacher. <p></p> Children who attended last year will receive priority placement only if applications are received by May 1. The deadline for applications without a late fee is May 30. After May 30, a late fee of $10 will be added. The final day applications will be accepted is June 6. <p></p> The fee for the two week program is $200. Families with more than one child enrolled in CAPS must pay the full fee for one child, but will receive a $20 discount for each additional child. The fee includes registration, materials, a CAPS T-shirt and daily snacks. <p></p> Courses for the first and second grade students include two hours of special enrichment programming focusing on exploring new ideas and creativity with hands-on <p></p> exercises and experiments. Next, students will attend an hour of cultural programming featuring music and visual arts. The final sessions of each day will focus on physical fitness or kiddy detective. <p></p> In grades 3 through 6, students take four classes per day, each lasting 45 minutes. Class schedules with alternate choices are submitted with the application.
