Ms. LSUA Pageant

Five coeds will compete in the 48th annual Ms. LSU at Alexandria pageant Saturday (March 29) in the Barbara Brumfield Caffey Annex on campus, announced pageant coordinator Kathy Wimmert. The "Puttin'' on the Ritz"-theme event begins at 7 p.m. Tickets, which cost $5, are available prior to the pageant at the school's Office of Auxiliary Services or at the door.

The new Ms. LSUA will be awarded a $1,000 Chancellor's Scholarship and will represent the university at a variety of functions in the 2008-09 academic year. The first runner-up will receive a $500 Chancellor's Scholarship. Other awards include People's Choice, Ms. Photogenic, Ms. Congeniality, Scholastic Achievement, Director's Award and second runner-up.

Contestants are Britni Danielle Campbell, freshman communications studies major from Lecompte; Kayla Ann Ducote, freshman biology major from Bunkie; Alonna LaTrice Richard, freshman nursing major from Mamou; Erica Anne Shipp, senior psychology major from Alexandria; and Amy D'Lee Theriot, sophomore nursing major from Centerpoint.

The competition includes casual and evening wear categories, and each contestant will be asked a question pertaining to her platform topic during the evening wear segment. The contestants will have participated in an interview with three judges from the community prior to the pageant. Each competitor has a mentor from the LSUA faculty.

The Ms. LSU at Alexandria pageant is open to all female students regardless of age or marital status.

Reigning Ms. LSUA Brandy Katrina Roberts, a junior elementary education major from Lecompte, will participate in the pageant and crown her successor.
