LSUA Back Stage Pass

Released: 03/17/2008

High school students from Central Louisiana will have a chance to experience a day -- and night -- at LSU at Alexandria in a get-acquainted event March 27-28, announced Shelly Kieffer, enrollment management officer and coordinator of "LSUA Back Stage." Their parents will learn more about the university at a dinner March 27 at the Alexandria Museum of Art.

"Fun and functional are the two objectives of LSUA Back Stage," said Kieffer. "We want prospective students to get comfortable with LSUA and meet professors and current students, and we'll also inform them about the enrollment process, financial aid and scholarship opportunities." March 20 is the deadline to register for LSUA Back Stage and the parents' dinner.

The event begins with a faculty and student mixer at 5:30 p.m. March 27 at Red River Pub & Grub on campus and an evening of entertainment, including a dive-in movie and Guitar Hero at the Fitness Center. Students may spend the night without charge in The Oaks, the university's new apartment complex, where they will share a room with an LSUA student.

The next day the high school students will attend LSUA classes, tour the campus and learn about student services. They also are invited to participate in Spring Fling, a Student Government Association-sponsored event featuring a battle of local bands, intramural activities, a movie, '60s-theme demonstrations and a parade of Volkswagens.

Parents will meet interim chancellor Tom Armstrong, who is vice chancellor for academic and student affairs; vice chancellor for finance and administrative services David Wesse; academic department heads; executive director of enrollment management Kenn Posey; and registrar Teresa Seymour at the dinner Thursday night. Armstrong will present a brief overview of LSUA, including new academic programs, and Posey will discuss scholarships and financial aid.
