Debate teams from a dozen universities will be at LSU at Alexandria this weekend for the annual Oak Tree Invitational Debate Tournament, announced Dr. Kevin Ells, director of forensics. Team competition begins Friday with rounds at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Individual rounds, featuring 25-30 debaters, start Saturday at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Debates will be held in the Science Building, Coughlin Hall and Chambers Hall. The public is invited.

"Some of the brightest college students in the South will be competing here this weekend, and we encourage people to witness how they use logic, analytical skills, creative thinking, humor and speed reading," Ells said.

The tournament is sponsored by the Speak Easy Club and the Upsilon Tau chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Honor Society at LSUA. The LSUA debate program is a member of the International Public Debate Association, whose rules will govern the tournament.
