"Vanities" to Open

Released: 02/12/2008

Two newcomers to the LSU at Alexandria stage and one graduating senior have been cast in the three lead roles of "Vanities," the next production by the university's Empty Space Players.

Tiffany Ayers of Pineville and Nyketa Lee of Alexandria join senior Sarah Swart of Pineville as the main characters, announced Dr. Jim Stacy, director and associate professor of theatre and communication arts. They portray characters that begin as cheerleaders in Act 1 (set in 1963), become sorority girls in Act II (1968), and move into their independent adult lives in Act III (1974).

Stacy says the production focuses on capturing the songs, fashions and lifestyles of three diverse periods and characters. "Those of my generation who grew up in those turbulent times will find themselves on a nostalgia trip," Stacy said.

A comedy by Jack Heifner, "Vanities" will be performed on the Hearn Stage at Kress Theatre in the Rapides Foundation Building Feb. 21-24 and Feb. 28-March 2. Ticket prices are $9 for the general public, $6 for seniors and LSUA faculty and staff, and $5 for LSUA students. Reservations may be obtained by calling 473-6573, 473-6467 or 473-6581.

Timothy Saucier, designer and technical director and assistant professor of theatre, announced his crew will be wardrobe coordinator Elizabeth Fontenot of Ville Platte, lighting designer Staci O'Donnell of Alexandria, and props coordinator Kayla Ward of Pineville. Jayce Cornell of Alexandria will be stage manager.
