Mardi Gras Parade

Released: 01/22/2008

Floats will roll an noon Jan. 30 for the 10th annual Mardi Gras parade at LSU at Alexandria. The family friendly event is open to the public.

Dr. Dee Slavant, director of student services, said 25 floats from LSUA student organizations, academic departments and staff support offices are entered in the parade. The Alexandria Middle Magnet School band and Dry Prong Junior High drum line also will perform.

"Beads, candy and cups will be plentiful," Slavant said. "The parade will last about 30 minutes. It's silly and a lot of fun, and we invite everyone to enjoy it."

The parade will begin on Middleton Drive near the student center and proceed in a square around the campus. Ample parking is available along the route.

First, second and third place float winners will be chosen, and the first place organization will serve as grand marshal in next year's parade. The staff senate float took first place in 2007.

The parade will be rescheduled in case of inclement weather.
