Ms. LSUA Pageant

Released: 01/09/2008

The deadline to enter the Ms. LSU Alexandria Pageant is Jan. 17, announced Kathryn Wimmert, pageant coordinator and counselor in the Department of Student Services. The Ms. LSU Alexandria Pageant, which has been held annually since 1961, will be March 29. The winner receives a $1,000 Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Pageant registration forms are available in Room 206 in the Department of Student Services. Participants who want to learn more about the pageant process can talk with Wimmert and reigning Ms. LSU Alexandria Brandy Roberts from noon-1 p.m. Jan. 15-17 in the Student Union. Registration also is available at that time.

The pageant is open to all female full- or part-time students with a minimum 2.5 grade point average and at least 12 hours of earned college credit. Participants must also be an active member of an LSUA student organization.

"Our pageant is primarily a scholarship competition. We don’t have swimsuit or talent components,” Wimmert said.

The Ms. LSU Alexandria selection process begins with a pre-pageant interview conducted by five members of the community. At the pageant itself participants are judged in a casual-wear introduction and a brief evening-wear presentation about their platform topics. “Contestants should have knowledge of LSUA and campus organizations and a basic awareness of current events,” Wimmert said.

Additional information is available by calling Wimmert at 473-6545.
