LSU Alexandria fall graduates announced

Ashley C. Weaver of Oakdale, one of 121 graduates from LSU at Alexandria during fall commencement, earned the Chancellor’s Award for Baccalaureate Degree Graduate. The award is presented to the student with the highest overall grade point average.

Weaver, who earned a bachelor of liberal studies degree, was one of three summa cum laude graduates with a minimum grade point average of 3.9 on a 4-point scale. Rayla Dvonne Crooks of Deville, bachelor of science in elementary education, and Jaime Lee Gaspard Lemoine of Marksville, bachelor of general studies, also were summa cum laude graduates.

Peggy Sue Nowe Parker of Colfax, bachelor of science in psychology, and Peggy Ann Baglio of Pineville, bachelor of science in elementary education, graduated magna cum laude, signifying a minimum 3.7 GPA.

Cum laude graduates with a minimum 3.5 GPA were Sonja Kay Newcomb of Ball, Melanie Francis Paul of Trout, Shannon Weeks of Vidalia, and Katherine Renee Willis of Pitkin. All earned bachelor of science in elementary education degrees.

The Chancellor’s Award for Associate Degree Graduate with Highest Overall GPA went to Heidi Marie Wilson O’Shee of Alexandria. She earned an associate in nursing degree.

Dr. John Lombardi, new president of the LSU System, was commencement speaker. The event was held Dec. 20 at the Alexandria Riverfront Center before a capacity audience.
