''Assassins'' Opens August 16; Runs for Three Weekends

LSU Alexandria’s Empty Space Players opens its production of “Assassins,” a musical by award-winning director Stephen Sondheim August 16.

Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Kress Theatre in The Rapides Foundation building downtown. Showtime starts at 7:30 p.m. Theatre and dinner tickets are $25. Theatre only tickets are $10. Dinner is catered by Falcone’s Table.

Performances are scheduled for Aug. 16-19, Aug. 23-26 and Aug. 30-Sept. 2. For dinner tickets, make reservations 24 hours in advance.

“Assassins” is directed by Timothy Saucier. Musical direction and choreography are by Richard Gwartney. The play is produced by Rhonda Shook and accompanied by Michael Rorex.

“Assassins” is a Tony award-winning musical that explores the history of presidential assassination in the United States from John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley, Jr. Music featured in the production reflects the popular music of the period portrayed. This production included strong language and is not suitable for children.
