Shuttle Service to LSU Alexandria Begins August 27

Released: 08/16/2007

Starting August 27, the City of Alexandria will offer shuttle service to LSU Alexandria allowing students to travel from downtown Alexandria to the campus.

Bus service will run five days a week. Monday through Thursday, service will run from the ATRANS downtown terminal every hour on the hour from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shuttle will arrive on the half hour. On Fridays, the shuttle will run from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

During registration on Aug. 22-23, students can ride the shuttle for free from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Starting August 27, students can use this shuttle service for $1 per trip or $2 per round trip.

The shuttle will run up Murray Street to I-49 South and exit at Sugar House Road to Highway 71 South. No stops or pick ups will be made by the shuttle. The shuttle stops at LSUA will be located behind Bolton Library on Grady Britt Dr., behind Coughlin Hall on Grady Britt Dr. and between Abrams Hall and the Student Center on Middleton Dr.

“This is one more example of the extraordinary cooperation of the City of Alexandria to serve our students and its citizens,” Dr. Robert Cavanaugh, chancellor of LSUA, said.

“Echoing Dr. Cavanaugh, this collaboration highlights the Administration’s commitment to its transition blueprint: to foster and facilitate cooperation with our region’s latest four-year institution,” Mayor Jacques Roy said.

This service addresses a need expressed by students at LSUA. In an October 2006 survey of LSUA students, 30 percent of those surveyed indicated interest in using such services.

“This service will remove a potential barrier for those interested in earning a college degree,” Cavanaugh said. “There may be people right now that cannot attend or even enroll in college because of a lack of transportation.”

Bus service will continue until the last day of finals, December 14, for the fall semester. Bus service will not run September 3, October 11-12 and November 22-23 because of Labor Day, LSUA Fall Holiday and Thanksgiving Holiday, respectively.
