LSU System President to Speak at LSUA Spring Commencement

LSU System President Dr. William Jenkins will be the keynote speaker at LSU Alexandria’s Spring 2007 Commencement.

The ceremony is at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Riverfront Convention Center in Alexandria.

Jenkins will address approximately 185 graduates and 1,200 guests and faculty members at the commencement.

Jenkins has served as president of the LSU System since 1999 after serving vice-chancellor and chancellor for the Flagship University and dean of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.

A native of South Africa, Jenkins received his professional veterinary medicine degree in 1958 and specialist credentials in 1968 from the University of Pretoria. In 1970 he received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

With extensive teaching experience at both the professional and graduate levels, Jenkins has delivered more than 200 lectures and addresses in the United States and abroad. He has published more than 60 scientific articles and has contributed 15 chapters to various textbooks. Jenkins has also co-authored a veterinary pharmacology textbook.
